Nicely distressed Hand Hewn Pine Mantel

This one is nicely distressed from being next to an entry with farm hands and live stock hitting against it over years. White pine is a soft wood so it allows for some nice rustic distressing we like to see in reclaimed wood. There are 2 mortises on 1 side. 1 is filled, and then 2 hinge notches opposite side. Pretty much like the one above but a little longer.

Rustic Gray Elm Mantel

Believe it or not good gray mantels are hard to come across as most 150 year old barn beams are really dirty coming out of the structure. So we try to carefully clean. Second is the fact if the beam is actually outside it will either and rot but if too fa inside, no sun is no gray. So it must be in a location where the sun can hit it but it doesn’t actually see a lot of weather. The next issue is whatever side did not face the sun is not so gray. Last is and thing in front of it will leave a shadow.

Hand Hewn Ash Mantel

This piece has the much desired 6×8 dimensions. 4’9″ makes it a great mantel for a master bedroom or basement fireplace. Ash has a very prominent grain with a lighter color patina and this one has beautiful hand hewn marks.
If you hang it the way most would it has 2 mortises yo would see on an 8″ side. But if you do go with 8″ tall and 6″ deep the 2 mortises on the 8″ side would hide to the back.
