Okay, really like this piece. Almost perfect but the back has some bigger checking (crack from drying 150 years ago) as red pine does but no mortises and perfect hand hewn marks not to coarse and not too smooth. Darker patina and the size are nice too.

Hand Hewn White Pine Mantel

This nice hand hewn white pine beam mantel has a mortise on the back side and a soft naily bottom side keeping the price down. You could put that side against the wall if you don’t mind a mortise on the top or bottom side depending on how installed. We do have a picture of those sides. The nice thing about white pine is it gets a pretty aged patina with a soft rustic sometimes more distressed look. Very light weight and almost always straight for easy install.

Nicely distressed Hand Hewn Pine Mantel

This one is nicely distressed from being next to an entry with farm hands and live stock hitting against it over years. Big Hand Hewn White Pine Mantels

This is a beautiful piece. Sister to the one above but the better half of that long beam. The hewing is just right and with no pockets for such a big beam it is pretty rare. We liked the picture we took on the saw horses better so we decided to use it for the post. Hope you like it as much as we do and it finds a good home. It is really worth more than we have it priced but summer time is always slow for mantels so we have it listed at this cost for now. White pine is surprisingly light weigh but being this big it will have some heft to it. Nothing a real strong man or two small boys couldn’t pick up at about 135lbs.

Hand Hewn Basswood Beam

Hewn basswood with 3 rafter notches on the back top side and a live bottom front corner. We believe the notches should face up because generally you will put decorations on the top to hide them versus the bottom side you will be looking at all the time when you are sitting by the fireplace. We tell people that all the time and they are generally enlightened. Also best to have the live corner face down so the top has a deeper shelf space for décor also. If this piece is longer than you need we can cut it down for a $20.00 shop fee and some folks will use the scrap to fill the notches. The desirable bigger depth versus height is what is keeping the price up on this one.

Glorious Hand Hewn Ash Shelf Mantel

This is a glorious piece of hand hewn ash in a very rare size. Nice crisp corners and profession hewn marks. Who ever did this piece was talented but ash is easier to hewn or split than most other woods. Nice color and grain. Pretty much everything you want. We have only reclaimed this size once before and only one piece and not as nice. We have a batch of these rare hand hewn shelf sizes and will probably never see this size again.
