Rustic Gray Elm Mantel

6.5″x6.5″x6’2″

Believe it or not good gray mantels are hard to come across as most 150 year old barn beams are really dirty coming out of the structure. So we try to carefully clean. Second is the fact if the beam is actually outside it will either and rot but if too fa inside, no sun is no gray. So it must be in a location where the sun can hit it but it doesn’t actually see a lot of weather. The next issue is whatever side did not face the sun is not so gray. Last is and thing in front of it will leave a shadow.

Short Hand Hewn White Oak Shelf

3.5″x6.5″x4’2″

We got these very rare size hand hewn white oak joists out of a house around the corner from us. Nobody hand hews all 4 sides of a house joists unless these are historically old or someone was particularly talented at hewing. Either way we were so delighted to pick these up with all the requests for this size in a hand hewn piece versus circle sawn. This has an interesting naily face. The back is rough but you wont see that. This short one is particularly pretty and will be great for that second smaller fireplace.
